Glimpse is a collection of addiction-cessation resources that actually work. I recommend viewing it on Github to make sure everthing loads and works as designed.
I am also working on a website for the project - keep in mind it is very early days and very much a work in progress. You can view it here: Glimpse
Why Did I Make This?
Many moons ago, I was addicted to pornography. For several years, I struggled to quit because of the advice I often found on YouTube. Then, by chance, I came across an incredible e-book. The Easy Peasy Method changed my life. Instead of forcing discipline and sacrifice on the user, it focuses on the benefits of understanding and effects of brainwashing on the user. From there, the user is free to escape whenever they would like to.
I then went on to volunteer with the organisation that made it happen. Peaceful focuses on creating local community through addiction-cessation - this is where I got my inspiration for this list.
Creation Process and Future Goals
I knew if I wanted to get this idea out efficiently, I would have to sacrifice some user-experience. Github is great for people who work with Github on a daily basis - but for the everyday person, it can be a right pain! While the current Github version is wonderful, I have goals to create a website that will replace the current version. Once this project gains traction, then I will start working on a website to fill that inevitable gap.
I need help finding more resources that align with the ‘actually work’ idea - if you think you have an e-book/video/anything then please create a Pull Request while keeping to the guidelines so you don’t go wrong.
- The name ‘Glimpse’ comes from the idea of glimpsing into your future self - freeing myself from addiction was the best thing I have ever done.
